One year warranty says it all! I thought this product looked fantastic and bought one less less than 2 years ago and I have been very disappointed. My main issue us that, after only a year or so of light use, the main volume resistor started to crackle and fail and it’s now completely dead on the left side rendering it pretty much useless unless I use headphones.
Similar to a lot of people on here, I have found that you only need to look at the USB connection and it disconnects which is very frustrating. The quality of the black material used for the main casing is also very poor. The first time I dusted it with a tissue it was scratched. I’ve just checked the warranty and found that it’s only a year and I guess this says it all.
I also have some M-Audio BX-8 monitors which were supposed to come with ‘isolation pads’ to find that the pads were 2 mm-thick flimsy little things unsuitable for isolating anything save for my sense of customer satisfaction. I followed this up with M-Audio at the time and received polite but infuriatingly patronising and evasive responses. In short I would never buy from this company again.
My advice – get yourself a Scarlett Interface or similar or save your money for something better. M-Audio, please sort your act out because it’s just not good enough, not to mention the cost to the environment.
Thank you for reading. Great clear sounding budget interface with some off-putting quirks. I bought this because I have another interface which generates a lot of noise and M-Audio was bragging about their “Pristine” DA.
It really does generate very little noise and the audio quality is the best I’ve seen for a budget interface. Only 3 stars because the clip indicator only has 4 lights; dB, -6dB, -3dB and CLIP for 0dB peaks, the gain knob needs to be turned nearly all the way up for vocals and the big beautiful knob in the center seems to actually do nothing.
I assume the center knob needs to be programmed somehow and I just haven’t set it up but it’s pretty obnoxious. Overall it’s a clean sounding affordable interface that doesn’t suddenly crap out like the Scarlett 2i2 that everyone insists is the best. It works perfectly for my voiceover work and I would recommend this over the Scarlett 2i2 to anyone starting out. Was a little awkward to setup had to install drivers before my win10x64 pc would even detect it as a device While it was working it worked very well.
All in all it’s a nice looking unit, pretty tough and looking well made. Then after about 10 days it just stopped working altogether. Returning for a refund and going to buy something more reliable from an audio specialist.
If this had better power delivery for powered mics. Not right for mics that need phantom power. Tried to use it with a basic shotgun mic and it simply doesn’t have enough juice due to the USB-C connection. If this had better power delivery for powered mics, then the design with level meters would have been ideal for a simple XLR to PC interface.
Alas, most people looking for a good USB interface for a mic to record at your desk will find M-Track problematic. Returned this product within three hours of receiving it. Experienced constant random audio drop outs, pops and clicks no matter what settings were used including manufacturers recommended.
Sounded decent enough when it was working correctly but not reliable enough – at least on my high end iMac set up. Was not going to waste anymore time trying to get it to work correctly as I suspected it was never going too. The problem Is the inconsistent audio performance audio dropping out and pops.. Does the job, but the USB C connector is so flimsy, requires so much attention just to stay plugged in during use. Quarter inch jacks feels so badly made too. As if fighting with the product when plugging leads in.
Middle knob is quite nice, however. Works and is useable, but would not buy a similar product from this company again Solid beautiful ‘retro’ design. Love the robustness of this unit. Love the angles, the huge master volume know and the retro looking level knobs Did I say how much I love the look of this thing? No glitches, no delays. Works very well. Very glad I purchased this over the other unit I was contemplating Presonus iTwo. However, despite my obvious love for this magnificent piece of equipment, there’s is one ‘flaw’ you must be aware of when setting up this audio interface.
It’s extremely important you push the USB C connect Very Firmly in the back of the 2x2M. Even if the power light is on you still need to ensure the connector is fully inserted to the back of the unit otherwise your computer might not register the interface. I seen this documented on YouTube and have personally experienced it myself. Not sure if this is a fault as it’s easily remedied by securing the connections correctly but please be aware.
Apart from that it’s a solid and likable little unit that I’m glad I bought. The best budget audio interface I have ever used. I have owned several high end interfaces from the likes of Presonus and Focusrite.
